Tema: “Applications of Data Mining in Chemical Engineering”



Professor Moses Tadé received his Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering with first class honours from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship for his Masters and PhD in Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He joined Curtin University as a Lecturer and earned the Personal Chair of Process Systems Engineering in 1999. He was Head of Chemical Engineering from 2001 to 2007 and then the Dean of Engineering from 2008 to November 2014. He became the Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Science and Engineering in December 2014. Moses was awarded a John Curtin Distinguished Professor at Curtin University in 2011 for his significant contributions to Chemical Engineering research at the highest level in the field of Process Systems Engineering (PSE). Over the past many years, he has significantly contributed to bridging the gap between theoretical work and industrial practice of PSE. He has received substantial funding from both industry and the Australian Research Council (ARC) for his projects. He has successfully supervised over 30 PhD students, several Masters’ students and postdocs. He has published 5 books on various aspects of his work as well as over 300 research papers in refereed international journals and conference proceedings with an H-index of 44 with over 6,800 citations. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering (www.apjChemEng.com), a Fellow of IChemE and an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia. He was listed in the Top 100 Australia’s most Influential Engineers in 2008 and was the Chair of IChemE in Australia in 2012 and 2013. He was the President of the Australian Council of Engineering Deans (in 2015 and 2016) and a member of the ARC College of Experts (from 2014 to 2017) where he chaired the ARC Panel for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences (MPCE) for the Discovery and DECRA grants in 2016.

Tema: Water- The grand challenge of the world and the role of chemical engineers



Iqbal M. Mujtaba is a Professor of Computational Process Engineering at the University of Bradford. He obtained his BSc Eng and MSc Eng degrees in Chemical Engineering in 1983 and 1984 respectively and obtained his PhD from Imperial College London in 1989. He is a Fellow of the IChemE, a Chartered Chemical Engineer, and the Chair of the IChemE's Computer Aided Process Engineering Subject Group. He was the Chair of the European Committee for Computers in Chemical Engineering Education from 2010-2013. He is currently an Associate Editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering and an Editorial Board Member of the journals Processes and Desalination.
Professor Mujtaba leads research into dynamic modelling, simulation, optimisation and control of batch and continuous chemical processes with specific interests in distillation, industrial reactors, refinery processes, desalination, wastewater treatment and crude oil hydrotreating focusing on energy and water. He has managed several research collaborations and consultancy projects with industry and academic institutions in the UK, Italy, Hungary, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Qatar, South Africa, Iraq, Algeria, China, Libya, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He has published more than 260 technical papers and has delivered more than 70 invited lectures/seminars/keynotes/short courses around the world. He has supervised 26 PhD students to completion and is currently supervising 8 PhD students. He is the author of 'Batch Distillation: Design & Operation' (text book) published by the Imperial College Press, London, 2004 which is based on his 18 years of research in Batch Distillation. He is one of the co-editors of the books (1) 'Application of Neural Networks and Other Learning Technologies in Process Engineering', Imperial College Press, London, 2001 (2) 'Composite Materials Technology' CRC Press, 2009, (3) 'The Water-Food-Energy Nexus', CRC Press, 2017.
